The Remote Op Shop Project – Kybrook Community

In December 2024, the Kybrook Community Aboriginal Corporation, with support from Many Rivers, proudly partnered with the Remote OpShop Project to trial our very own community Op Shop. From the beginning, this project has been about more than just second-hand goods—it's been about creating something lasting, meaningful, and led by our community.

The Remote OpShop Project supports remote Aboriginal communities like ours to set up and run local Op Shops. Thanks to generous donations from across Australia, our shop was quickly stocked with affordable, much-needed items that make a real difference in our day-to-day lives. It’s also opened the door to learning new skills and building confidence in retail and business operations.

The trial in December was a big success—so much so that we were able to give every household in Kybrook and the Town Camp a $50 Power Card to help with expenses over Christmas. It was a great way to give back and show appreciation for the community’s support.

Now, our Op Shop has found a permanent home in the demountable office at the centre of Kybrook, and we’re open Monday to Thursday, 9am to 12pm, with the occasional Saturday opening when possible. The shop is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and CDP participants who bring energy, care, and commitment to keeping it going strong. A big shoutout to Denisha, Kellyanne, and Theresa—you’re doing an amazing job!

Looking ahead to 2025, we’re focused on reinvesting the shop’s earnings to grow and improve the space, and to support our hardworking volunteers. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together, and we’re excited about what’s next.

If you'd like to volunteer, donate, or learn more, get in touch with our Kybrook Op Shop team on 0447 489 045.

Together, we're building something strong for our community—one item, one skill, and one connection at a time.
