Cemetery Rejuvenation Project

The Kybrook Community Cemetery holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for our people—it is a resting place for our ancestors and loved ones, and a vital link to our heritage and connection to Country. Over time, due to limited access to equipment and resources, the cemetery became overgrown, and sadly, some gravesites were no longer identifiable.

With great care and respect, RISE Ventures has engaged CDP participants from our community to lead a Cemetery Rejuvenation Project. This work is being guided by Elders and community members to ensure cultural protocols are followed and our ancestors are honoured in the right way.

Using drone technology to survey the area, the project began with clearing overgrown trees, managing grass and weeds, and preparing the space for further restoration. A key part of the project is the identification of each gravesite, carried out in close consultation with the community and Elders who hold valuable knowledge and stories.

Once graves are respectfully identified, families will be supported with the option to place curbing and headstones, creating a meaningful space for reflection, remembrance, and ongoing cultural connection.

This project is not just about physical restoration—it is about restoring dignity, honouring those who came before us, and preserving the spiritual importance of the cemetery for future generations.
